It has a role as an EC 3.1.1.7 (acetylcholinesterase) inhibitor, an EC 2.5.1.18 (glutathione transferase) inhibitor and a human metabolite. It is a member of reactive oxygen species and a chlorine oxoacid. It is a conjugate acid of a hypochlorite.
