Garcinia cambogia, rich in hydroxycitric acid (HCA), has been suggested to promote weight loss and improve metabolic parameters. Evidence regarding its efficacy in pre-diabetic obese adults remains limited. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Garcinia cambogia rind powder supplementation on anthropometric, glycemic, lipid, hepatic, and renal parameters in pre-diabetic obese adults.
The observed effects are likely mediated by HCA, which inhibits ATP-citrate lyase, reducing de novo lipogenesis, enhancing glucose utilization, and modulating adipokines and oxidative stress. Conclusion: Garcinia cambogia rind powder supplementation exerts dose-dependent metabolic benefits in pre-diabetic obese adults, improving anthropometric, glycemic, lipid, hepatic, and renal parameters without adverse effects. It may serve as a complementary intervention alongside lifestyle modification for the management of obesity and pre-diabetes.
